Bank Islam has launched a new debit card offering, dubbed the Be U by Bank Islam Visa debit card-i, which will be complemented by a range of features housed within the bank’s existing Be U digital banking app. These include a built-in expense tracker, as well as the ability to conveniently manage the card’s limits and security settings from the Be U app.

Available in five eye-catching designs, Bank Islam said that the Be U by Bank Islam Visa debit card-i is aimed at catering to its customers’ evolving needs, especially digital natives who are seeking cutting-edge shariah-compliant solutions that resonate with their modern lifestyle.

On top of being able to make payments at 100 million Visa merchants worldwide, the card also comes with an expense tracker – housed within the Be U digital banking app – which allows consumers to monitor their spending habits. This, in turn, enables them to plan their budget more accurately as they work towards achieving their financial goals.

Additionally, cardholders can manage the various settings for their Be U by Bank Islam Visa debit card-i easily through the Be U app, including changing your PINs as well as adjusting your security settings and spend limits. In the event of suspected fraud – or if you believe that your personal data has been compromised – you can freeze and unfreeze your card from the app as well.

Bank Islam further noted that its customers can easily apply for the card online via the Be U app, after which the card will be delivered to their doorsteps within 10 working days – you will not have to go through the hassle of visiting a bank branch at all. In terms of fees, there is a one-off charge of RM12 for every successful application, in addition to an annual fee of RM10.

“Be U by Bank Islam Visa debit card-i extends and complements Be U’s customer-centric mission of building products that delight and surpass customer expectations. The entire user experience within the Be U app has been realised through the unwavering dedication of the teams to ensure customer delight. In doing so, each iteration and release of the app has consistently leveraged customer insights and user research,” said the group chief digital officer of Bank Islam, Noor Farilla Abdullah.

Noor Farilla further said that the Be U app and debit card-i combo is meant to change how customers interact with their banking apps, consequently shaping the way they integrate financial management with their existing lifestyle. On top of the usual banking functions like being able to open a savings account and transfer funds, the Be U app also supports features like Nest, an automated goal-savings feature to help customers achieve short-term goals.

Meanwhile, the group chief executive officer of Bank Islam, Mohd Muazzam Mohamed noted that the Be U app and debit card-i combo represents the bank’s commitment in transforming the Islamic banking experience by leveraging on advanced technology. “The payment methods available within the app is envisioned to propel the shariah lifestyle of spending responsibly,” he said, adding that the bank also aims to help develop sectors like Islamic banking and ethical investments via its Be U app.
