AirAsia Expands Domestic Capacity For Chinese New Year Travel Period
Author Avatar

AirAsia is increasing its domestic flight capacity ahead of the Chinese New Year travel period, adding 150 extra flights nationwide between Feb 12 and 24.

With the additional services, the airline’s total domestic operations during the period will reach 4,434 flights, reflecting preparations for heavier passenger traffic as families travel for the festive season.

Additional Flights Target Peak Holiday Demand

The airline said the expanded schedule is aimed at easing travel pressure during one of the busiest periods of the year, particularly for routes linking Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia.

By increasing flight frequency, travellers are expected to have more options when planning return journeys and managing peak-period travel dates.

Fare Support Focuses On East Malaysia Travel

To help manage festive travel costs, AirAsia is offering all-in one-way fares capped at RM600 on selected routes between Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia.

The capped fare includes a 20kg checked baggage allowance, which may help reduce additional charges for passengers travelling with gifts or longer stays during the holiday period.

Wider Range Of Departure Cities

During the Chinese New Year period, Kuala Lumpur will have services operating to major East Malaysian destinations, including Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Miri, Sibu, Sandakan, Tawau, Bintulu, and Labuan.

Travellers departing from Penang and Johor Bahru will also have access to expanded services on selected East Malaysia routes, while new options from Kota Bharu will improve connectivity to Kota Kinabalu and Kuching.

Domestic Network Capacity Supports Festive Travel

AirAsia said its domestic network capacity allows it to support higher travel demand during peak seasons, noting its 61 percent share of the Malaysian domestic aviation market by capacity.

The airline added that the additional flights align with ongoing efforts to support affordable travel during major festive periods.

Planning Ahead Can Help Reduce Travel Stress

Passengers are encouraged to complete self check-in through the airline’s website or mobile application up to 14 days before departure.

Arriving earlier than usual at airports is also advised, as passenger volumes are expected to be higher throughout the Chinese New Year travel window.
