Prasarana Malaysia Berhad has launched a new Savings Tracker feature for My50 pass users, allowing commuters to monitor their trips and spending through the Touch ‘n Go eWallet application.
The feature is designed to help users better understand how they are using their monthly pass and whether they are fully benefitting from the subsidised fare.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the initiative supports efforts to make public transport payments more convenient while encouraging greater use of digital payment options.
He said more than half of My50 subscribers are now using digital payment methods, including cashless options through eWallets, reflecting growing acceptance of digital transit payments.
The trend, he added, shows positive progress in modernising public transport usage.
The Savings Tracker allows users to view their monthly travel activity and total spending. It also sends notifications when a user’s trips approach or exceed RM50, helping them ensure they are getting full value from their My50 pass.
According to Loke, if a user’s trips do not reach RM50, the system will notify them how many more journeys are needed to break even for the month.
The goal is to help commuters make informed decisions about their travel patterns and maximise the benefit of the pass they have paid for.
Loke highlighted that the My50 pass is heavily subsidised by the government. While users pay RM50 per month, the government contributes an additional RM100, bringing the actual value of the pass to RM150 per month.
He said nearly RM300 million was spent last year to fund the subsidy, underlining the scale of public investment involved in keeping public transport affordable.
The ministry hopes the new feature will help users better appreciate the value of the subsidy and use the service more effectively.
Loke also praised the collaboration between Prasarana and Touch ‘n Go, noting that the integration allows users to renew their My50 passes anytime through the app without having to queue at service counters.
Users can track their trips and savings over a 30-day period and see how much they save by using public transport instead of other modes of travel.
The feature is expected to support wider adoption of public transport by making cost savings more visible and easier to understand for daily commuters.
