Concessionaire IJM Corporation Bhd has announced that its New Pantai Expressway (NPE) and Sungai Besi Highway (BESRAYA) have begun testing the open payment system, allowing motorists to pay their toll fares with credit and debit cards. At the same time, Ekovest Berhad’s subsidiary – Konsortium Lebuhraya Utara-Timur Sdn Bhd (KESTURI) – also began its trial of the system on the Duta-Ulu Klang Expressway (DUKE).

With this latest development, eight highways have begun its implementation of the open payment system; prior to this, the Kuala Lumpur-Putrajaya Expressway (MEX) was the first highway to begin the test at its Putrajaya Toll Plaza. This was quickly followed by the Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP), Western Kuala Lumpur Traffic Dispersal Scheme (SPRINT) highway, Shah Alam Expressway (KESAS), and the SMART Tunnel.

In total, the Works Ministry has enlisted the concessionaires of 12 highways to participate in testing this initiative. The remaining four highways that are also expected to begin to trial the system soon include the Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway (AKLEH), Guthrie Corridor Expressway (GCE), Butterworth-Kulim Expressway (BKE), and Penang Bridge (JPP).

As with the other highways that have enabled the open payment system prior to this, motorists who are travelling along the NPE, BESRAYA, and DUKE highways will be able to pay their toll fares using debit and credit cards at selected lanes. These special lanes will be indicated by clear signages, so make sure to keep an eye out for them if you’d like to give these new payment options a try!

The installed terminals – which are situated next to the Touch ‘n Go (TNG) card readers at the booths – will accept payments from MyDebit, Visa, and Mastercard cards. Their acceptance will serve as an alternative to the usual TNG card, SmartTAG, and RFID payment methods.
