ShopBack Pay To Shut Down In Malaysia From 25 March 2026

One less QR payment option will soon be unavailable at the checkout. Rewards platform ShopBack will discontinue ShopBack Pay in Malaysia from 25 March 2026, removing the payment method for both in-store QR payments and online transactions made through the app.

After the cut-off date, ShopBack Pay will no longer appear as a payment option in the app, and participating retailers will stop accepting the service.

QR Payments Through ShopBack Pay Are Being Discontinued

ShopBack confirmed on its support page that the payment feature will be removed from the app once the service ends. Until then, transactions using ShopBack Pay can still be completed at participating retailers.

The change mainly affects payments made through the ShopBack app at physical stores that supported the service’s QR code payments. Once the service is discontinued, those transactions will need to be completed through other payment methods such as bank cards, e-wallets, or other QR payment platforms.

ShopBack’s core cashback platform for online shopping is not affected by this change.

QR Payments Through ShopBack Pay Are Being Discontinued

ShopBack confirmed on its support page that the payment feature will be removed from the app once the service ends. Until then, transactions using ShopBack Pay can still be completed at participating retailers.

The feature mainly supported QR payments made through the ShopBack app at participating physical retailers. These payments sometimes came with additional cashback rewards tied specifically to the ShopBack Pay payment method.

Once the service is discontinued, those transactions will need to be completed through other payment methods such as bank cards, e-wallets, or other QR payment platforms. ShopBack’s main cashback platform for online shopping will continue operating as usual.

Cashback Rewards For ShopBack Pay Have Already Stopped

While the payment service will only end later in March, the cashback rewards tied to it have already been phased out earlier.

From 2 March 2026, purchases made using ShopBack Pay no longer earn new Return Cashback. Transactions made on or after that date are not eligible for the additional loyalty reward that ShopBack previously offered for repeat purchases at the same retailer.

However, cashback already earned from earlier purchases will still be honoured.

Pending Return Cashback from ShopBack Pay purchases made before 2 March will continue to be processed and credited to users’ cashback balances according to ShopBack’s usual confirmation timelines.

ShopBack is also allowing pending cashback to be confirmed even without returning to the same retailer. Completing any eligible online purchase through the ShopBack platform before the shutdown date will trigger confirmation of the pending reward.

Existing Cashback Balances Can Still Be Withdrawn

The shutdown of ShopBack Pay does not affect existing cashback balances in users’ accounts.

Confirmed cashback can still be withdrawn as cash through ShopBack’s usual withdrawal process, and existing ShopBack accounts will remain active.

Pending cashback from non ShopBack Pay merchants is also unaffected and will continue to be processed according to normal timelines.

ShopBack Pay itself did not function as a stored value wallet. This means there is no payment balance that needs to be spent before the feature is removed.

Platform Focus Shifts Back To Cashback Rewards

The closure follows an earlier move in 2024 when ShopBack discontinued ShopBack PayLater, its buy now pay later financing service.

Taken together, these changes suggest a narrower focus on ShopBack’s original cashback aggregation model rather than operating its own payment or financing products.

For consumers, the immediate financial impact is limited unless ShopBack Pay was regularly used at participating retailers. Malaysia’s QR payment landscape remains crowded with alternatives provided by banks and e-wallet operators, meaning payment access itself is unlikely to change.

Over the next few years, cashback platforms are likely to compete more on retail partnerships and online reward rates, rather than building their own payment infrastructure. Rewards will continue to be tied mainly to where purchases are made online, rather than which payment method is used at the counter.
