ShopeePay Now Sells Travel eSIMs From RM3.50
Author Avatar

ShopeePay has added travel eSIMs to its app, covering six destinations: Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Japan, China, and Singapore. Plans start from RM3.50 and offer up to 31 days of data, depending on the package you choose.

The eSIMs are provided in partnership with GoHub, a travel connectivity provider. You can purchase, set up, and activate a travel eSIM entirely within the ShopeePay app.

Purchasing And Activating Your eSIM

To buy a travel eSIM, open the ShopeePay app and go to “Bills & Payment” on the homepage, then select “eSIM”. From there, pick your destination, select your preferred data allowance and number of travel days, and confirm your purchase.

Activation is handled separately. Once your order is placed, go to “History” in the app, select your order, and tap “Activate eSIM Now”. ShopeePay offers three activation methods: direct activation, QR code, or manual setup.

Do note that your phone needs to support eSIM technology. Most smartphones released in the last few years are compatible, but check your device settings before purchasing. If you have never used an eSIM before, this earlier guide covers the basics of how eSIMs work on your phone.

Compare Before You Buy

At RM3.50, the cheapest plan is likely a small data package for a short trip. ShopeePay has not published a full pricing table at the time of writing, so the range between the entry-level plan and a longer, higher-data package is unclear. Before you buy, compare the data allowance and validity period against what you would pay through standalone eSIM providers like Airalo or through TNG eWallet’s own travel eSIM service, which covers 149 countries.

A five-day trip to Japan with heavy Google Maps and social media use can burn through 1GB a day, so check how much data each plan includes before committing.

Convenient If You Already Use ShopeePay

ShopeePay’s standalone app launched in March 2025 as a separate app from the main Shopee shopping platform. It already offers travel insurance, hotel bookings, and flight bookings, so the eSIM feature means you can now sort data, insurance, and accommodation in the same place.
