Starting 14 July 2025, Maybank customers can change their daily transfer limits directly through the MAE app. This update enables users to manage their account preferences more easily, without needing to access the Maybank2u website.

Previously, transfer limits could only be adjusted through the web platform. With this change, customers now have the option to make updates on mobile, offering greater flexibility in how they control their transactions.

Understanding Transfer Limits

A transfer limit is the maximum amount a customer can send, pay, or reload in a day through their Maybank account. It applies to services such as interbank transfers, bill payments, and e-wallet top-ups.

The ability to update this limit allows users to match their account settings with their spending needs. Limits can be increased to accommodate larger transactions or reduced to reflect more cautious usage.

How to Update the Limit in the MAE App

To adjust the transfer limit, customers can log in to the MAE app and tap the Settings icon located in the top left corner. From there, they should go to the Pay & Transfer section, select Transfer, then tap on Transfer Limit. After choosing the relevant transfer type, they can select a new daily limit from the dropdown menu. The changes can be saved and, if the new limit is higher than the current one, Secure2u verification will be required.

Cooling-Off Period for Increased Limits

Any increase in the transfer limit will trigger a 12-hour cooling-off period. This is a security feature designed to reduce the risk of unauthorised changes. During the cooling-off period, users may continue making transactions up to their existing limit. Notifications will be sent through the MAE app or SMS to indicate when the cooling-off period starts and when the new limit becomes active.

Additional Security Features

Customers who detect suspicious activity or suspect unauthorised access to their accounts can activate the Kill Switch. This feature is available on both the MAE app and the Maybank2u website, and it temporarily disables account access to prevent further transactions while the issue is addressed.

What This Means for Customers

With transfer limit updates now available in the MAE app, Maybank users can manage their daily transaction settings more efficiently. This feature offers mobile access to a function that was previously limited to desktop users, allowing for quicker responses to changing financial needs and better control over personal banking activity.

For foreigners with Malaysian external accounts, Bank Negara Malaysia generally limits transfers to overseas accounts to RM10,000 per day per account.

If you need to send more than that, you’ll need to visit the bank branch with supporting documents, as higher amounts require approval under BNM’s Foreign Exchange Policy.

Hope this clears things up!
