CIMB World Mastercard cardholders will still get the same 1x Bonus Points for local spend, but the they will no longer earn 2x Bonus Points for overseas spend. Instead, cardholders will receive an unlimited 1.5% cash rebate on overseas spend. Both retail purchases overseas and online spend in foreign currency qualify for the cash rebate. Cardholders are eligible for this cash rebate until 30 November 2020.
Another new benefit introduced is the 5x Bonus Points for flight ticket purchases, a feature that would help the cardholder rack up points more quickly. According to CIMB, 100,000 Bonus Points is equivalent to RM250. Moreover, buying your flight tickets with your CIMB World Mastercard gets you automatic travel insurance coverage of up to RM1 million – a current feature of the card that will be carried forward to the new version.
Besides the overseas cash rebate and 5x bonus points for flight tickets, the revised CIMB World Mastercard will also offer the following travel-centric benefits:
Benefit | Valid until |
15% off at The ZON Duty Free outlets in Malaysia (in addition to 1x bonus points for local spend) | 15 November 2021 |
15% off and RM10 stamp duty waiver for travel insurance | 30 June 2020 |
Preferential foreign exchange rates at CIMB Bank Bureau de Change in Malaysia | 30 November 2020 |
Meanwhile, the CIMB World Mastercard’s other privileges like up to 50% off hotel dining privileges across the region and one-for-one afternoon tea set deals at selected hotels in Kuala Lumpur remain unchanged by the revision. The existing CIMB Regional Golf programme, which gives cardholders 4x complimentary green fees, will continue until 31 December 2019. After that, you can enjoy the privileges of the Mastercard Southeast Asia Golf – World programme instead, with 50% off green fees at 25 golf courses in 9 countries.
As mentioned, the changes to the CIMB World Mastercard will take effect on 15 November 2019. The annual fees for the CIMB World Mastercard remain fully waived and the minimum income requirement is RM90,000 per annum (RM7,500 per month).
