CIMB To Discontinue CIMB Petronas Platinum Mastercard Credit Cards
Author Avatar

CIMB has announced that it will be discontinuing the CIMB Petronas Platinum and CIMB Petronas Platinum-i credit cards, with the process to take place in two stages starting 28 October 2024 and ending 30 June 2025.

According to the FAQ by CIMB, the decision was made to streamline CIMB’s credit card lineup after an internal strategic business review. It has decided to focus on the new CIMB Petronas Visa Platinum-i and CIMB Petronas Visa Infinite-i credit cards – which were launched in April last year – and discontinue the two older Petronas co-branded cards.

The process will take place in two stages. From 28 October 2024, the two credit cards will no longer be available for application. Existing cardholders may still use their existing cards, but the card benefits will change to the following:

Existing CIMB Petronas Platinum Credit Card: CIMB Cash Rebate Platinum Credit Card
Existing CIMB Petronas Platinum-i Credit Card: CIMB Platinum-i Credit Card

Existing cardholders will be issued the new replacement cards as above between November and December 2024, and cardholders will receive an SMS to update on card delivery.

From 30 June 2025, the CIMB Petronas Platinum/-i credit cards will be deactivated/cancelled and if the cardholder has not yet transitioned to their new cards, they will no longer be able to use the existing cards. During the period between the two phases, customers are encouraged to transition any standing instructions, auto-billing, and all retail spend to the new cards.

Meanwhile, for existing CIMB Petronas Platinum/-i cardholders who also hold the CIMB cards that they will be transitioned to, the process will be slightly different. From 28 October 2024, both cards will have the same benefits and cardholders are encouraged to fully transition to the other cards before the co-brand cards are deactivated.

For existing CIMB Petronas Platinum/-i credit cardholders, you would already have received a notice about this transition. CIMB has also prepared an extensive FAQ document you can read to ensure you fully understand what will be happening.
