Standard Chartered Extends 30% Cashback Campaign For Smart Credit Card Until 31 December
Author Avatar

Standard Chartered Bank has extended its Smart Credit Card 30% Cashback campaign, allowing cardholders to continue enjoying 30% cashback on purchases from selected online merchants if they meet the monthly minimum spend requirement of RM1,000. The updated campaign, which was originally slated to end by 30 April 2021, will now continue from 1 May until 31 December 2021. However, it will see some revisions made to the list of participating merchants and rewards structure.

Open to all principal Smart credit card cardholders, the extended campaign will feature an updated list of participating merchants with whom you can spend with in order to earn cashback:

  • Boost
  • FavePay
  • GrabPay
  • Lazada
  • Shopee
  • Taobao
  • Touch ‘n Go eWallet
  • Zalora

All your transactions on these apps must be retail transactions, which means that payments such as cash advances, cash withdrawals, easy payment schemes, as well as government and charity-related transactions are not valid for the campaign.

Note as well that the total monthly cashback that you can earn in this extended campaign stands at RM30 per eligible cardholder, provided on a first-come first-served basis. The bank has allocated RM56,250 each month for this campaign, with the overall capping of RM450,000 over the campaign period. All cashback earned will be credited into your account within 12 weeks after the end of the campaign period.

That said, do be aware that those who have participated in the first campaign are not entitled to benefit from this extended campaign until their participation in the earlier promotion has ended.

Standard Chartered had initially rolled out this 30% cashback campaign as an introductory offer in conjunction with the launch of the Smart credit card. It allowed eligible cardholders to earn 30% cashback from selected online merchants for six months, starting from the month during which the cardholder’s Smart credit card was approved. In this version, the total cashback that can be earned was limited at a more generous RM80 per month, although the bank also introduced category caps according to the types of merchants. Participating merchants ranged from e-commerce platforms (capped at RM15), e-wallets (capped at RM15), and travel-related merchants (capped at RM50).

The Smart credit card was launched in November 2020, and is targeted at individuals who frequently spend on digital platforms. It offers a benefit of 6% cashback for selected digital lifestyle merchants – including Astro, iQiyi, Netflix, Spotify, and Playstation Network – if you hit the minimum spend requirement of RM1,000.
