Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has directed the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living to ensure full compliance with the implementation of the Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP) for the 2025 Hari Raya Aidilfitri period. The scheme, which is aimed at protecting consumers from unreasonable price hikes during the festive season, will be in effect until 7 April.
Anwar is expected to carry out on-the-ground inspections to monitor the prices of controlled goods under the scheme. These visits will allow him to assess the enforcement of regulations, including the accurate and visible display of price tags on controlled items, to ensure that consumers can enjoy fair and reasonable prices during Hari Raya.
He emphasised that it is essential to maintain a fair environment for both consumers and traders, fostering a balanced outcome for all parties. Pricing decisions, he noted, were made based on consultations with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, relevant government agencies, and industry stakeholders.

The message was conveyed by his senior press secretary, Tunku Nashrul Abaidah, during the Prime Minister’s Office daily briefing.
Anwar also instructed the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living to continue working closely with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to strengthen their joint monitoring and enforcement efforts. This includes increasing the frequency of inspections to ensure that the supply of essential goods remains adequate throughout the festive season.
Consumers are encouraged to report any irregularities or pricing issues to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living during this period to help maintain transparency and accountability.
