BUDI95 Petrol Subsidy Takes Off

The BUDI Madani RON95 (BUDI95) initiative has successfully expanded to include over 16 million Malaysians, with a smooth rollout across petrol stations in the capital and other states. The programme, which provides subsidised RON95 petrol at a price of RM1.99 per litre, has been well-received by early adopters, including night-shift workers and daily commuters.

Public Welcome The Convenient And Simple Process

Individuals interviewed at petrol stations across Malaysia have expressed widespread satisfaction with the initiative’s straightforward process. The system allows eligible users to verify their status by simply using their MyKad at the station. Payments can then be completed using cash, credit or debit cards, or e-wallets, offering a seamless and convenient experience for motorists.

The ease of the process has been a recurring point of praise. A 22-year-old social media host from Johor, Amirul Hakim, noted that refuelling his vehicle took less than two minutes. Likewise, university student Rania Ardini Mohd Asri, 21, shared a positive experience after an initial minor hiccup, stating that station staff were quick to assist and smooth the process.

Significant Savings Easing Financial Burden

For many Malaysians, the BUDI95 initiative provides tangible financial relief. A 42-year-old toy model designer, Oh Jee Shyan, who spends about RM400 a month on petrol, anticipates saving approximately RM12 with each fill-up. Similarly, a 34-year-old lorry driver, I. Ahrishan, noted a saving of about RM1.50 per motorcycle refuel.

Beyond direct savings, individuals appreciate the broader impact. A 69-year-old security guard, PSR Sundra Moorthi, viewed the initiative as a two-pronged effort, it helps the public save money while also allowing the government to address subsidy leakages. A 51-year-old hotel worker, Sharizal Ismail, projects a potential 20% to 30% reduction in his monthly petrol expenses.

Phased Rollout and Continued Government Support

The BUDI95 rollout began in phases to ensure a smooth transition. Initially, it was introduced on 27 September for police and military personnel, followed by recipients of Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) from the B40 category. The full expansion to all eligible Malaysians took effect on 30 September.

Each eligible individual is allocated a monthly subsidy for up to 300 litres of RON95, with e-hailing drivers being exempt from this cap and able to apply for additional allocation. The government encourages citizens to ensure their MyKad and driving licence details are accurate by verifying their eligibility on the official portal at www.BUDImadani.gov.my.
