71 Passport Counters To Close From June 26 For System Maintenance
Author Avatar

The Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) will temporarily shut passport service counters at 71 offices nationwide starting this Thursday, June 26, for system maintenance. The closure will be rolled out in phases, with the first phase running from June 26 to 30.

During this period, you will not be able to submit passport applications over the counter, apply through the MyOnline Passport portal, or collect passports at the affected branches. Passport printing services at these locations will also be unavailable.

Offices Affected In Phase 1

The first phase covers the Immigration headquarters in Putrajaya and passport issuance offices at Jalan Duta, Melaka, Kelana Jaya, and Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

Nine Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) branches are also included: UTC Pudu Sentral (Puduraya), UTC Selangor, UTC Johor Bahru, UTC Pasir Gudang, UTC Seremban, UTC Ipoh, UTC Kedah, UTC Sungai Petani, and UTC Seberang Perai.

JIM has not yet released the schedule for subsequent phases, but has advised the public to monitor its official channels for updates.

If You Have A Passport Application In Progress

If you have already submitted an application and are waiting to collect your passport, check whether your designated collection office is on the Phase 1 list. If it is, you will need to wait until services resume after June 30, or until JIM provides further guidance.

For anyone planning to apply for a new passport or renewal this week, the timing is tight. Counter services and online applications at these branches will go offline from Thursday, leaving a narrow window on Wednesday, June 25, if you need to get your application in before the closure.

Get Your Travel Essentials Sorted Out

If you have travel plans in the coming weeks, make sure your passport is sorted out well before your departure date. Most countries require at least six months of remaining validity on your passport for entry, and airlines can refuse to board passengers who do not meet this requirement.

The government has also gazetted a new 10-year passport option at RM350, though JIM has delayed the rollout from the original June 1 launch date. The five-year passport remains available at RM200 for adults under the existing fee structure.

Need more? A travel credit card can earn you air miles, lounge access, or reward points on spending you are already doing, and some cards include built-in travel insurance when you charge your full flight fare. If you want standalone protection, comparing travel insurance plans before you book can save you from absorbing unexpected medical or cancellation costs overseas.
