Astro customers will soon be able to watch sports matches and TV shows in Ultra HD (3840 x 2160 pixels). Astro recently announced it will be providing Ultra HD content, starting with two English Premier League (EPL) matches next month.
The pay-TV operator will be hosting a private showcase of the Liverpool vs West Ham and Arsenal vs Manchester City matches in the country’s first 4K broadcast on 12 August. Astro’s media invite stated the company will be providing more information on its Ultra HD plans during the event.
It is worth noting that this is not Astro’s first announcement on 4K channels. In the company’s most recent financial report released in June 2018, former Astro Group CEO Datuk Rohana Rozhan said Astro will broadcast the EPL in Ultra HD in October following its recent broadcast of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia. The former group CEO added that the company is expected to launch four 4K live sports and general entertainment channels.
