Grab, KLEAN Introduce New Recycling Machines, Offers Grab Vouchers As Rewards
Author Avatar

Grab has announced a partnership with recycling platform KLEAN to roll out its very own Grab x KLEAN reverse vending machines (RVMs), which reward customers who recycle their plastic containers and cans via the machines. Set to be operational starting from 1 November 2023, you’ll be able to earn KLEAN Points on the KLEAN app for your efforts, which you can then use to redeem Grab vouchers.

The steps to participate in this green initiative is fairly straightforward, but you must first download and install the KLEAN app in your phone beforehand. Following that, you can head on over to the nearest Grab x KLEAN RVM and do the following:

  • Press “Recycle Now!” on the screen.
  • Deposit your plastic containers, bottles, and aluminium cans into the RVM (make sure that the containers have been cleaned beforehand!).
  • Tap on “Finish” on the screen.
  • Scan the QR code that appears using your KLEAN app to claim your KLEAN Points.
  • Use your KLEAN Points to redeem Grab vouchers.

At present, Grab and KLEAN have positioned several RVMs at seven locations within the Klang Valley, including KL Sentral, KL Convention Centre, as well as a BHPetrol station at Bukit Jalil. You can find the full list of locations here. Moving forward, more RVMs are expected to be made available at more locations to the public too, so make sure to check back from time to time!

On its website, Grab further shared that these RMVs are developed specially for this collaboration, which will contribute to the tech giant’s ambition to achieve zero waste packaging by 2040. This is because the usual KLEAN RVMs can only accept bottles and cans, while Grab needed its RVMs to take in more types of plastic containers in various forms.

For further context, this is not the first time that Grab has collaborated with KLEAN for a green initiative. Back in May 2022, Grab had also teamed up with KLEAN and the Malaysian Research Accelerator for Technology and Innovation (MRANTI) to do something similar.
