RHB Bank said that it has rolled out several security enhancements to better safeguard customers’ accounts and cards from unauthorised access and fraud. These include the ability for customers to freeze their online banking access and cards via the RHB mobile banking app and online banking website, in the event that they’ve fallen victim to scammers.
In a statement, RHB said that the Lock Account feature will allow you to lock your account temporarily, barring all access to it – whether through the RHB mobile banking app or the RHB online banking website – including you. Once this feature has been activated, a range of banking services will be made inaccessible until you’ve reinstated your account access, with the exception of a few facilities: ATM withdrawals, payment or transfers to your account, usage of your credit and debit cards, as well as previous DuitNow auto-debit and scheduled payments.
To activate the Lock Account feature, simply fire up your RHB mobile banking app and tap on “Lock Account” on the home screen. Following that, tap on “Take me there” and log in as usual, then go to “Settings”. Click on “Security” and select “Lock Account”, and you’ll be required to agree to the terms and conditions. Click once more on “Lock Account Now”, and you’re done! You can also do this via the RHB online banking website by going through similar steps.

Aside from that, RHB said that you can also temporarily lock your cards so that all outgoing transactions on your RHB debit and credit cards will be blocked. Once you’ve locked your cards, you will not be able to perform cashless payments (such as FPX or e-wallet payments), perform recurring payments, and use ATM services. You may, however, still be able to access your RHB online banking account and mobile banking app, as well as your current and savings account.
To temporarily lock your RHB credit or debit cards, you can do so via two channels: the “Accounts” or “Settings” page. Regardless of which one you opt for, you will need to select the specific card that you wish to lock and toggle on the button to “Temporarily Lock Card”, then click on “Yes” to complete the process.
RHB’s introduction of these security features are essentially in line with the government’s call for banks to roll out a kill switch, in a bid to better fight financial scams and fraud. Numerous other banks have also rolled out their own version of a kill switch much earlier, including OCBC, Maybank, and CIMB Bank.
