In addition to its newly relaunched Platinum credit cards, Public Islamic Bank has also revamped its Gold credit cards – the Public Islamic Bank Visa Gold Credit Card-i and Public Islamic Bank MasterCard Gold Credit Card-i. Cardholders now get 2% cashback on online transactions using the Visa Gold, and 2% cashback on grocery spend using the Mastercard Gold.
Previously, both the Public Islamic Bank Gold credit cards offered the same benefit: unlimited 0.1% cashback on retail purchases made locally and overseas. Now, the cashback is capped at RM30 per month, allowing you to earn cashback on up to RM1,500 worth of expenditure for the month. You can see the changes outlined more clearly in the tables below.
Previous benefits | Current benefits | |
Cashback | 0.1% cashback on retail purchases locally and overseas | 2% cashback on online transactions |
Monthly cap | Unlimited | RM30 |

In addition to being a fully Shariah compliant credit card, the Public Bank Islamic Bank Gold cards also come with a charity feature. 0.1% of your total dining transactions will be automatically donated to Yayasan Waqaf every month, capped at RM100 in total donations.
Public Islamic Bank Visa Gold credit cardholders can also benefit from a 0% Flexipay Plan, where you can convert purchases that are more than RM1,000 into 6-month instalments with 0% management fees. Meanwhile, Public Islamic Bank Mastercard Gold cardholders are entitled to a 0% Balance Transfer benefit, where you can convert outstanding balances of above RM1,000 from other banks into 6-month instalments at zero management fees.
The minimum income requirement for the Gold cards remain accessible at RM24,000 per annum (RM2,000 per month). The annual fees can be considered quite high at RM150 a month for an entry-level card, but the fee for the first year is waived and it will be subsequently waived if you swipe a minimum of 12 times in a year.
The main strengths of the Public Islamic Bank Gold cards are the entry-level requirements and uncomplicated cashback benefits. If you earn a higher income, the revamped Public Islamic Bank Platinum cards also offer cashback on groceries and online transactions – but at a higher rate of 4% and an additional category of overseas and departmental store spend. The minimum income requirement for the Public Islamic Bank Platinum cards is RM40,000 per year. Alternatively, you could look into the ever-popular Public Bank Quantum cards – which offer 5% cashback on online and contactless spend at an annual income requirement of RM36,000.
