RHB Bank Malaysia is updating the cashback structure for its RHB Shell Visa Credit Card and Shell Visa Credit Card-i, effective 28 July 2025. The revised structure introduces more targeted rewards and increases the maximum monthly cashback to RM110, provided cardholders meet the required spending across several categories. This marks a slight improvement over the previous cap of RM100 per month.
However, the higher potential comes with notable changes. The monthly cashback cap for Shell petrol will be reduced from RM50 to RM30. Meanwhile, the former RM50 combined cap for groceries, e-wallets, and utilities is now split into separate RM10 caps per category, limiting cashback in those areas unless spending is spread more broadly.
A new category for overseas spending has been introduced, offering up to RM50 in cashback per month. At the same time, the spending tiers needed to unlock higher cashback rates have been raised from RM800, RM1,500, and RM2,500 to RM1,000, RM2,000, and RM3,000 respectively.
The table below shows the maximum cashback in RM available by spending category, comparing the previous structure with the revised version.
| Category | Before 28 July 2025 | From 28 July 2025 Onwards |
| Petrol (Shell) | Up to RM50 | Up to RM30 |
| Groceries | Part of shared RM50 cap | Up to RM10, with RM250 minimum spend |
| e-Wallet & Online | Part of shared RM50 cap | Up to RM10, with RM500 minimum spend |
| Utilities | Part of shared RM50 cap | Up to RM10, with RM250 minimum spend |
| Overseas Spend | Not available | Up to RM50, with RM500 minimum spend |
| Other Spend | 0.2%, no cap | 0.2%, no cap |
| Maximum Cashback | RM100 per month | RM110 per month |
Previously, groceries, e-wallet transactions, and utilities were grouped under a single RM50 cap. The new structure assigns a separate cap to each, introduces cashback for overseas spend, and increases the overall maximum cashback potential.
In addition to the new RM110 cashback cap, other key features of the card have been revised. These include higher monthly spend tiers, category-specific minimum spend requirements, and updated cashback caps.
| Feature | Before 28 July 2025 | From 28 July 2025 Onwards |
| Monthly Spend Tiers | RM800 / RM1,500 / RM2,500 | RM1,000 / RM2,000 / RM3,000 |
| Minimum Spend Per Category | Not required | RM250–RM500, depending on category |
| Cashback Caps | RM50 shared (groceries, online, utilities) | RM10–RM50 per category |
| Other Spending Cashback | 0.2%, no cap | 0.2%, no cap |
The higher spend thresholds and new per-category requirements mean that cardholders will need to plan their spending more strategically to qualify for the highest cashback rates.
| Tier | Monthly Total Eligible Spend (RM) | Petrol Spend (Shell) | Grocery Spend | e-Wallet Top-up and Online Spend | Utilities Spend | Overseas Spend | Others Spend |
| 1 | 1,000 – 1,999.99 | 3.0% | 1.0% | 1.0% | 1.0% | 1.0% | 0.2% |
| 2 | 2,000 – 2,999.99 | 5.0% | 2.0% | 2.0% | 2.0% | 2.0% | 0.2% |
| 3 | ≥ 3,000.00 | 12.0% | 5.0% | 5.0% | 5.0% | 5.0% | 0.2% |
| Minimum Spend per Category (RM) | — | — | RM250 | RM500 | RM250 | RM500 | RM500 |
| Maximum Monthly Cashback Capping (RM) | — | RM30 | RM10 | RM10 | RM10 | RM50 | Unlimited |
Cardholders who were previously accustomed to earning maximum cashback by focusing on petrol or a few broad categories will need to adapt. The new structure rewards broader, more deliberate spending. For example, earning RM10 in groceries cashback now requires at least RM250 spent on groceries in the same month. Likewise, overseas spending of RM500 can now earn up to RM50, which was not previously possible.

While the new system allows higher earnings overall, it requires more planning and closer tracking. The increase from RM100 to RM110 is only accessible if a cardholder qualifies across all cashback categories. Those who do not meet minimums in one or more categories may find their monthly rewards are similar to, or lower than, before.
The new cashback structure starts on 28 July 2025. If your credit card statement period includes both before and after this date, your cashback will be split into two parts.
Transactions posted before 28 July will follow the old cashback rules, with a maximum of RM100 per month. Transactions posted on or after 28 July will follow the new rules, which offer up to RM110 per month with individual category caps and spend requirements.
For example, if your billing cycle is from 12 July to 11 August, any spending between 12 and 27 July will use the old structure. Spending from 28 July to 11 August will be calculated under the new structure. This split ensures your cashback is calculated fairly during the transition period.

Goob review by the author. At tier 3 (>3000 monthly spend), grocery, online spend and utilities spend given by RHB is 5% but totally misleading. With a cap of RM10 cash back per month and minimum spend required, the correct % cashback at tier 3 for grocery should be 4%, online spend 2% and utilities 4%. It is meaningless to give e.g. 50% cashback but limited by 2 conditions, maximum cash back and minimum spend. And it should not be called an RHB Shell card if the maximum cashback of petrol spend at Shell (RM30) is less than the overseas… Read more »
Breaking news! They have deferred the roll out lol RHB! What a joke
Hopefully because they realized they’ll lose customers due to this new structure
Deferred the roll out? U meant the revised card features? What is your source of this “breaking news”?
No, they did not… 5% wallet rebate at 3k spend capped at rm10 is stupid, but well i already milked them for 2 years for at least rm50 a month, its a good farewell. GG rhb
Absolutely, couldn’t agree more!
