Apple Pay and Google Pay in Malaysia have both enabled support for the Wise prepaid card by financial services provider Wise. This means that you can now add your Wise card to both mobile payment services to use it as your source of fund for payments.
Prior to this update, Apple Pay and Google Pay in Malaysia only allowed users to add credit and debit cards from selected banks to use for their payments. Apple Pay, which launched in Malaysia back in August 2022, currently permits the linking of cards from banks like Maybank, AmBank, Standard Chartered, and HSBC. Meanwhile, Google Pay – introduced a little later in November 2022 – allows cards from CIMB Bank, Hong Leong and Hong Leong Islamic Bank, Public Bank, as well as HSBC.

The process to add your Wise prepaid card (both virtual and physical) to both Apple Pay and Google Pay is fairly simple; you can do so straight from your Wise app. Once you’ve fired up the app, select “Card” from the navigation bar at the bottom of your home screen – where you’ll see all your available Wise cards. From there, tap on the “Add to” button, and you’ll be able to add your card to either GPay (Google Pay) or Apple Pay (and even Apple Watch). Note that you may need to verify this activity with an OTP sent to your phone.
There is also an alternative to add your Wise card from Apple Pay and Google Wallet itself, if you prefer to do so. The steps are similar to how you’d add your credit and debit cards. Once done, you can go ahead and make payments using Google Pay or Apple Pay with your Wise card as your source of fund.
Finally, while both Google Pay and Apple Pay have both enabled the Wise prepaid card as a supported payment card, Samsung Pay – another major mobile payment service among Malaysians – has, unfortunately, yet to do so.
