7-Eleven Stores In Malaysia Now Accept Alipay+

7-Eleven Malaysia has enabled support for digital payment system Alipay+, which in turn, allows the convenience store chain to also receive cross-border payments from selected tourists from Asia. Specifically, 7-Eleven can now accept payments from tourists via four Asian e-wallets, namely AlipayHK (Hong Kong), GCash (the Philippines), Kakao Pay (South Korea), and TrueMoney (Thailand) – all of whom have been onboarded onto the Alipay+ ecosystem.

“7-Eleven Malaysia is thrilled to enhance the traveller experience as tourists return to our beautiful country. By expanding Alipay+ coverage to all our stores, we are providing a seamless and convenient digital payment solution for visitors from around the world. As a key use case for tourism, our stores serve as a one-stop destination for travellers, offering a wide range of products, snacks and essentials,” said the assistant general manager for in-store services of 7-Eleven Malaysia, Chan Chee Weng.

To note, the integration of Alipay+ in over 2,400 7-Eleven stores in Malaysia was facilitated by payment gateway service provider Razer Merchant Services (RMS). With the addition of 7-Eleven outlets, Alipay+ is now integrated in more than 80,000 merchant touchpoints in Malaysia, including various retail, F&B, and hospitality outlets – such as Tealive, MyNews, Sephora, Watsons, Sports Direct, as well as duty-free stores.

“Razer Merchant Services (RMS) strives to facilitate the digital transformation of Malaysian businesses through our partnership with Alipay+. Our collaboration deepens the close relationship with 7-Eleven and empowers 7-Eleven to tap into the vast opportunities of the digital economy by offering convenient payment for locals and tourists, enhancing the overall experience and driving growth,” said the chief executive officer of RMS’ parent company Razer Fintech, Lee Li Meng.

To clarify, Alipay+ is a suite of digital payment system and marketing solutions that allows local businesses to process a wide range of mobile payment methods from regional and global customers. Aside from Malaysia, it is also accepted in countries like the Chinese mainland, Macao SAR, Singapore, Thailand, Japan, and South Korea – just to name a few.

Meanwhile, prior to this latest addition of four new Asian e-wallets, 7-Eleven was already accepting e-wallet payments from Alipay – a digital wallet from China (separate from Alipay+, the payment system) – since 2016. This is on top of selected local e-wallets like Touch ‘n Go eWallet and ShopeePay.
