Boost has shared a teaser post on its social media, hinting that Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) electricity bills may soon be available to pay using Boost.
“A new partner for #BoostBills coming soon. BoostBill is about to get better and brighter on 13 November 2021. Stay tuned for more updates,” the e-wallet shared in its Facebook post earlier today, which showcased a GIF with TNB’s logo.
Based on this teaser, Boost will become the first official e-wallet payment partner for TNB, allowing Malaysians to pay their electricity bills directly via Boost’s bill payment feature.
This is potentially – and surprisingly – a big deal. Currently, TNB does not support any e-wallet payment options despite the growing acceptance for e-wallets nationwide, and almost appearing to actively prevent third-party payment services from accepting e-wallet payment for TNB bills over the past year and a half. As we shared in our 2020 article, being able to use e-wallets to pay for TNB bills can result in substantial savings in the long term, especially when “double-dipping” with credit card rewards.
We will continue to keep an eye out for updates on this news. Currently, BoostBills – which was launched in July – lists Sarawak Energy, Sabah Electricity, and NUR Power as its three billers under the Electricity category.
