Prasarana Malaysia Bhd has launched the Keluarga Malaysia Travel Pass in a bid to encourage Malaysians to use the public transport more often when travelling for leisure in the Klang Valley.
The pass – which will be made available on 1 December 2021 – is priced at RM15, and will allow four individuals travelling in a group to get unlimited rides for a full day on Prasarana-owned bus and train services during weekends and public holidays. These include rides on the LRT, MRT, monorail, as well as the BRT-Sunway line.
During the launch of the pass, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob highlighted the savings that the pass could bring to the public. “This means that each person in the group of four will only have to pay RM3.75 to use rail and bus services operated by Rapid KL all day long,” he said, adding that the initiative is aimed at encouraging families to spend quality time with their loved ones by visiting malls or other local tourist attractions.
Meanwhile, the chairman of Prasarana, Tan Sri Jamaludin Ibrahim said that the pass also seeks to help lift Malaysia’s economy. “It is also our hope that the Travel Pass would encourage domestic tourists to use the public transportation available to explore all the interesting places in the Klang Valley, and help small traders’ economy around the city get back on their feet at the same time,” he stated.
Alongside the Keluarga Malaysia Travel Pass, Prasarana also launched the Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Transit Package, which will allow selected SME owners to set up stalls at eight LRT stations along the Kelana Jaya LRT line. Further details on this package will be announced soon by Prasarana’s subsidiary, Prasarana Integrated Development Sdn Bhd (PRIDE) – with the actual operation set to begin in March 2022.
