Acting Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali has said that the ministry will be taking more steps to enhance its existing Price Catcher mobile app in a bid to attract more users. These include upgrading the app to promote and improve its information and interactivity – among other things.
Datuk Armizan explained that although the app contains immensely useful information, the number of Malaysians using it is still relatively small. “So far, the app has been downloaded by just 293,499 individuals, a small number compared to our nation’s population. The daily visitor count is merely 2,000 people yet the information within the app proves to be very useful. Our main goal is to make it more user-friendly,” he said, adding that the app’s success is highly dependent on the society’s digital technology awareness, as well as user preferences for price comparison.
The acting minister further explained that Price Checker – as indicated by its name – is an app that allows users to check the prices of approximately 480 consumer goods via its comprehensive list, including chicken/meat, seafood, eggs, vegetables, and dry goods. Additionally, users can compare prices of specific products within a 10km (Peninsula) or 20km radius (East Malaysia), thereby enabling them to plan their expenses wisely as well as save time when doing so.
The Price Checker app was first launched back in 2019 by KPDN, and it has since gone through two enhancement processes. Malaysians who would like to check out the app can download it for free from Google Play, the App Store, as well as Huawei AppGallery.
Aside from the Price Checker app, the Economy Ministry has also collaborated separately with local organisation KitaJaga to equip the KitaJaga app with a price comparison feature so that users can check the prices of grocery items at the stores and supermarkets in their vicinity.
