Lazada Rolls Out New Cashless Payment Option, Dubbed DuitNow QR Payment On Delivery
Author Avatar

E-commerce platform Lazada has upgraded its payment options by adding another cashless alternative, dubbed the DuitNow QR payment on delivery option. It is intended to help people practise social distancing and minimise personal contact more effectively, as well as offer a better peace of mind and sense of security when purchasing online.

Essentially, the DuitNow QR payment on delivery option is an enhancement of the existing cash-on-delivery (COD) payment method, which lets you pay for your purchases with cash when they are delivered to you. With the new payment option, you can now do so by scanning the DuitNow QR code upon receiving your deliveries instead.

Customers will be able to pay via any digital payment providers that support DuitNow QR; as of January 2021, the DuitNow QR ecosystem has a total of 26 participants, with another 15 more banks and e-wallets expected to join. Once the payment goes through, your order status in the Lazada app will be updated to reflect the update.

Do note, however, that this new payment method is currently available only for selected products that are delivered by Lazada Express (LEX). To find out whether you can tap into it for a particular product, go ahead and check under the “Delivery” section in the product page. Look for “Delivery Options”, and see if the COD option has been enabled. If it has, make sure to set it as your payment method when placing your order at the checkout page!

Once that’s done, all you need to do is wait for the delivery of your purchases, and then pay using the DuitNow QR code that is provided by the delivery courier.

According to the head of user growth for Lazada Malaysia, Rick Ting, Lazada’s move to introduce this new payment method is spurred by customers who remain insecure despite the rising trend of online shopping. “For those who are still new or uncertain about online shopping, having the choice of paying once orders arrive at your doorstep helps to give a sense of reassurance,” he said.

Ting also commented that enabling the DuitNow QR payment on delivery option will further reinforce consumer trust in digital transactions, enhance consumer safety, and help increase the adoption of digital commerce.

As an introductory offer to celebrate the launch of this new payment option, Lazada is now offering a one-time discount of RM5 (minimum spend RM30) when you make your first DuitNow QR payment using the Scan & Pay feature in the MAE by Maybank2u (MAE) app. You will need to key in a promo code (“LAZCOD5”) to tap into this offer. To find out more about Lazada’s DuitNow QR payment on delivery option, head on over to the e-commerce platform’s website.
