Shopee has announced a partnership with global digital travel platforms Agoda and Booking.com to introduce Shopee Hotel, which will enable the e-commerce platform to now provide hospitality offerings on its site. Specifically, Shopee’s customers will be able to find and book hotels, resorts, homes, and apartments that are listed on both Agoda and Booking.com, as well as enjoy great savings and exclusive travel deals.
Shopee also highlighted that Shopee Hotel will not be limited only to Malaysia; it is also expected to be launched in Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines. In other words, you’ll have access to more than one million properties globally – all through your Shopee app. On top of this convenience, the Shopee app will also prompt you with popular attractions and landmarks near your chosen accommodations while you browse, which can be helpful in planning your travel itineraries.
The launch of this partnership is a timely one, said Shopee, as Malaysia’s domestic tourism industry is beginning to revitalise, and more people are also making travel plans for year-end seasons. This is supported by Agoda’s search data in September, which revealed that searches for domestic stays have increased by more than 57% compared to May 2021. There has also been a 37% increase in Southeast Asian users who are searching for international destinations.
The chief operating officer of Shopee, Terence Pang said that Shopee aims to provide its customers with easier access to a variety of travel products and experiences through this new partnership. “We also look forward to supporting the recovery of local travel and related tourism industries by promoting fun staycation ideas together with hotel partners,” he said.
The chief commercial officer of Agoda, Damien Pfirsch also chimed in with a similar sentiment. “This partnership with Shopee, the first with a regional e-commerce partner, will conveniently bring these great deals to Shopee customers, on a platform they are familiar with. At the same time, we can better support our hotel partners and tourism operators by connecting them to the biggest online community of shoppers in Southeast Asia,” he commented.
In conjunction with the launch of Shopee Hotel and the 11.11 Big Sale, Shopee is running a Book Hotels & Flights On Shopee campaign starting from today until 21 November 2021, which allows users to tap into some great savings. These include exclusive deals and 10% discount vouchers (capped at RM20) for hotel and flight bookings made via the e-commerce platform. Users who make purchases during the campaign period will also automatically be in the running to win 11 prizes (five grand prizes and six secondary prizes).
