CIMB Makes SecureTAC Approval Mandatory For All CIMB Clicks Transactions Starting 20 May
Author Avatar

CIMB Bank has announced that customers will need to approve all their CIMB Clicks transactions using SecureTAC via the CIMB Clicks or CIMB OCTO app starting from 20 May 2023. This includes FPX transactions, regardless of amount.

In its notice, CIMB said that this update is part of its continuous efforts to provide customers with better online banking security. To note, SecureTAC is the bank’s preferred method to verify transactions, replacing the six-digit SMS one-time passwords (OTPs) that were previously used. It lets you authorise your transactions conveniently with an in-app one-tap approval method, and is said to be more secure as it uses enhanced encryption to protect your transactions.

The security feature has also recently been enabled for the CIMB OCTO app, a separate mobile banking app that complements the CIMB Clicks app. Prior to this, CIMB said that SecureTAC was only enabled on the CIMB Clicks app but not the CIMB OCTO app as the latter is still in its early development stage.

For added context, CIMB previously only required customers to use SecureTAC for the approval of transactions of certain amounts, namely CIMB Clicks web transactions of RM100 and above and FPX transactions above RM100. This latest development is yet another step taken in CIMB’s migration from SMS OTPs to its preferred SecureTAC verification method – following the directive from Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) for banks to enhance their online banking security.

If you’ve yet to activate SecureTAC on your CIMB Clicks or CIMB OCTO app, here’s an FAQ from the bank that you can refer to for guidance. The page will also show you how to verify your transactions using SecureTAC on both apps.
