Maybank has stated that customers will soon be able to receive instant alerts on their Maybank2u or MAE by Maybank2u (MAE) app if they experience unsuccessful card transactions due to specific reasons. This is set to take effect starting from 11 April 2022.
In its notice, Maybank said that customers will be able to receive instant push notifications on their apps for unsuccessful transactions that are carried out on Maybank debit, credit, or charge cards due to the following reasons:
These real-time alerts will then allow cardmembers to take prompt action to rectify situation. Maybank also stressed that this move is part of its security measures to provide a safer banking experience for its customers. As such, all cardmembers are encouraged to download the Maybank2u or MAE app, and to allow notifications from the apps on their phones.
At present, Maybank cardholders will receive SMS alerts on the status of their transactions when they carry out various card payments, including online transactions, point-of-sales (POS) transactions, and withdrawal/cash advance transactions. However, the bank has been gradually shifting away from SMS alerts to rely more on in-app features on its Maybank2u and MAE app – as seen by earlier moves to enable Secure2u as the preferred authorisation method for various payments.
