Standard Chartered has temporarily expanded the cashback benefit for digital lifestyle spend on its Smart credit card to also encompass contactless transactions, allowing cardholders to earn cashback for these payments on top of other digital expenses that are already allowed. Already ongoing, this update is set to last until 30 September 2022.
Under this latest arrangement, Standard Chartered’s Smart credit card cardholders will also be able to earn 6% cashback on their contactless transactions per month when they spend a minimum of RM1,000 on retail purchases. This is in addition to the original list of digital expenses that were allowed for this benefit, namely seven services: Astro, iQiyi, Jook, Netflix, PlayStation, Spotify, and Steam.
Note that the maximum cashback that can be earned via this 6% cashback benefit remains unchanged at RM20, inclusive of all digital spend and contactless transactions.
Standard Chartered further clarified that contactless transactions are defined as payments of RM250 and below, made by tapping the card against a card reader. The bank also said that expenses such as cash withdrawals, annual fee and late payment charges, as well as government- and charity-related transactions do not qualify for this benefit.
If you’re a Smart credit cardholder, you can tap into this upgraded feature alongside another ongoing campaign, which lets you earn another 15% cashback on selected online merchants with a minimum spend of RM1,000 on retail purchases. If you maximise both perks on the card, you’ll be able to gain up to RM35 worth of cashback.
Standard Chartered’s Smart credit card was launched in November 2020 as Malaysia’s first carbon-neutral card. It also carries other features, such as buy-now-pay-later plans with 0% interest for transactions worth above RM500 (3 months and more).
