GoPayz, the e-wallet developed by U Mobile, has collaborated with global payment network UnionPay to roll out a new contactless payment option for NFC-enabled Android phones. GoPayz’s Tap & Pay is accepted at stores that offer the UnionPay QuickPass service, allowing users to quickly pay for their purchases with a “tap and pay” function using their virtual UnionPay card on the GoPayz app.
To first activate the Tap & Pay mobile payment service on your phone, click on the Tap & Pay icon in your GoPayz app and register your UnionPay card. Once done, you can start using Tap & Pay to pay for your purchases.
When making payments with Tap & Pay, don’t forget to enable NFC on your phone. Then, tap on the Tap & Pay icon in the GoPayz app, key in your 6-digit GoPIN, and put your mobile device near the point-of-sale (POS) terminal to pay. As usual, purchases that come up to more than RM250 will require you to enter your card PIN. GoPayz users will be able to use this new mobile payment service at a wide range of merchants, including Family Mart, Guardian, Petron, and Tealive.
In a statement, the chief marketing officer of U Mobile, Jasmine Lee said that GoPayz is committed to making financial and digital services accessible to all. She added that this new feature is in line with the commitment since it makes payments even more seamless for its users, especially as GoPayz can be used both locally and internationally.

The general manager of UnionPay International Southeast Asia, Cai Huiming shares a similar sentiment. “As the rate of digitalisation continues to accelerate, we believe that it is crucial for us to continue providing innovative payment solutions that are easily accessible by consumers, to encourage more people to go cashless. Not only will this contribute to the country’s drive towards a cashless society, we believe that this will also enable greater financial inclusion for Malaysians,” he said.
