ShopeePay Enables DuitNow Transfer To Allow Real-Time Fund Transfers
Author Avatar

E-commerce platform Shopee has finally enabled the DuitNow Transfer function on its ShopeePay e-wallet. With this, ShopeePay users are now able to send or receive funds from online banking platforms or other e-wallets in real time by entering their DuitNow IDs, instead of keying in their account number.

In its FAQ, Shopee clarified that every individual may have multiple DuitNow IDs that are registered with separate online banking platforms or e-wallets for the DuitNow Transfer feature. For instance, your phone number can be registered as the DuitNow ID for an e-wallet, while your NRIC number can serve as the DuitNow ID for your bank. In the case of ShopeePay, users are only allowed to activate their phone numbers as the DuitNow ID for the e-wallet’s DuitNow Transfer service.

To set your phone number as your ShopeePay’s DuitNow ID, simply perform a one-time registration via the following steps:

  • Tap on the “Settings” icon in your ShopeePay page in the app
  • Tap on DuitNow, agree to the T&C, and tap on “Link DuitNow to ShopeePay”
  • Obtain a verification code via WhatsApp, voice call, or SMS (up to your preference)
  • Key in the verification code to successfully register your phone as the DuitNow ID for ShopeePay

Once that’s done, you can go ahead and transfer or receive funds seamlessly from other internet banking accounts or e-wallets! If you’re sending funds to other people, you can key in the recipient’s preferred DuitNow ID, ranging from mobile and account numbers to NRIC and passport details.

Do also note that only ShopeePay users who have upgraded their account to the Premium account (by verifying their NRIC) will be allowed to use the DuitNow Transfer service. As always, all DuitNow Transfer transactions are free, and there is no limit on the number of DuitNow Transfer transactions that can be performed.

That said, your DuitNow Transfer transaction amounts will still be restricted to your ShopeePay daily, monthly, and annual limits. Briefly, ShopeePay users with a Premium account has a daily and monthly limit of RM4,999 (for each), and an annual transaction limit of RM59,999. Meanwhile, the wallet size for ShopeePay also stands at RM4,999.

To note, ShopeePay joined the DuitNow ecosystem – which is operated by Payments Network Malaysia (PayNet) – all the way back in February 2020. It subsequently activated DuitNow QR in December 2020, and said that ShopeePay aimed to enable DuitNow Transfer by June 2021.
