Malaysians will now have the option to pay for their purchases on Google Play Store using ShopeePay, with the e-wallet having been enabled as a payment method on the digital content distribution platform.
Google Play Store has also updated its support page to include this latest development, noting that “[y]ou can use ShopeePay to buy apps and digital content on Google Play. You need a registered ShopeePay account with enough balance to use this service on Google Play.”
It’s a fairly straightforward process to add ShopeePay as a payment method on Google Play. Start by tapping on your profile icon in Google Play Store, followed by “Payments and subscriptions”. Next, tap on “Payment methods”. You’ll then see the option to add ShopeePay as one of your payment methods when purchasing content from Google Play. Select it, proceed with the subsequent instructions to verify your ShopeePay account – and you’re done!
If you’re ready to add ShopeePay on your Google Play Store account to make purchases some time soon, you can tap into an ongoing promotion that lets you enjoy RM4 cashback when you do so. Note that there is a minimum spend requirement of RM10, and each customer is only allowed to claim it once. Ending on 6 February 2022, the campaign will provide the cashback reward on a first-come first-served basis – capped at 30,000 users.
ShopeePay is the second e-wallet to be enabled on Google Play Store as a payment method. Early last year, Touch ‘n Go (TNG) eWallet became the first e-wallet to be listed as a payment option on the platform.
