Robo advisor StashAway has updated its app to allow investors to convert their existing General Investing portfolios to environmental, social, and governance (ESG)-optimised Responsible Investing portfolios. This can be conveniently done without requiring investors to manually withdraw from existing investments and start a new portfolio.
With this, StashAway is clearly putting the spotlight on its Responsible Investing portfolio, which was rolled out just about four months ago, back in January 2022. Similar to StashAway’s classic General Investing portfolio, the Responsible Investing portfolio is also a globally diversified portfolio that invests in exchange-traded funds (ETFs). However, it is selective in the businesses that it has exposure to, choosing businesses with high ESG scores or are keen to drive positive social impact.
If you already have a General Investing portfolio with StashAway and would like to convert it, just tap on the portfolio from the main page of the app. From there, you’ll see the option to “Convert this to an ESG-optimised Responsible Investing portfolio” under the Overview tab. Tap on it and choose your risk category after that (Core for balanced portfolios with lower risk, or Higher-risk if you have a higher tolerance for risk).
The app will continue to prompt you with step-by-step instructions as you go along. As you confirm the conversion, note that the StashAway Risk Index (SRI) of your portfolio may also alter – make sure that you are comfortable with the change! Upon confirmation, StashAway will place the orders to adjust your portfolio’s asset allocation accordingly – which may take up to two business days.
If you’ve had the General Investing portfolio for a while before converting it to a Responsible Investing portfolio, you’ll also be happy to know that this conversion will allow you to keep your past performance history as well. This means that you can conveniently keep track of and compare the performance of your previous and new portfolio.
This enhancement is being rolled out in stages to StashAway users, so make sure to update your app to the latest version.
