Grab-led GXBank has launched its app and banking services to all Malaysians today, officially becoming Malaysia’s first digital bank to commence operations. This came following a period of beta-testing among GXBank’s own staff and stakeholders, as well as selected members of the public.

“Since we commenced operations in September 2023, we have tested our app with thousands of beta testers, almost 50% have created Pockets – the app’s savings goal feature. Emergencies, holidays, and investments are the top three reasons our customers are saving for. Following the months of testing among GXBank internal staff, shareholders, partners, and selected Malaysians, we feel optimistic and encouraged to now expand to the rest of Malaysia,” said the chief executive officer of GXBank, Pei Si Lai.

For context, GXBank customers will have a main savings account, and can then opt to create Pockets – both allowing them to earn daily interest of 3% p.a.. Pockets, in particular, is a feature aimed at helping people to cultivate a habit of saving money for their needs and dreams.

Aside from that, Lai also revealed that GXBank is set to roll out several additional features in the coming months, with the main highlight being its debit card, GX Card. The card – which will be issued by Mastercard – offers unlimited 1% cashback for your online and offline spend, along with other benefits like zero markups or fees on foreign transactions, waiver on the RM1 MEPS ATM withdrawal fee, and 1.5x GrabRewards Points when users spend at Jaya Grocer.

“As a digital bank, we are born of tech with no physical branches. This makes our GX Card very special to us as it is currently the only physical manifestation of GXBank that customers can proudly keep in their pockets,” said Lai, adding that it is a tangible way for the bank to connect with its customers. She also highlighted that the GX Card is designed to boast the brand’s colours, making it distinctly recognisable from other cards.

Meanwhile, chairperson of the GXBank board of directors, Datuk Zaiton Mohd Hassan said that GXBank will strive to make banking seamless, convenient, and accessible to all. “The journey was a challenging one, but we are humbled by the support of many to get us to this moment. As Malaysia’s digital bank, we look forward to continued partnerships to realise our vision to build a financially resilient and inclusive nation,” she said.

If you’re interested in testing out the GXBank app for yourself, you can download it from Google Play or the App Store. If you make a deposit of RM100 or more, you’ll be entitled to an instant cashback reward of RM20 as part of the introductory promotion, and another RM8 instant cashback when you register your GX Account with DuitNow. Additionally, you can receive up to RM29.40 cashback (6x RM4.90) on your GrabUnlimited subscription when you link your GX Account on the Grab app.
