Come 1 July 2023, Hong Leong Bank (HLB) is set to revise the redemption rates of its credit card rewards points, which will see cardholders needing more points to redeem gift vouchers, air miles, and various other items from the bank’s updated rewards catalogue.
Despite this revision being imposed on the entire rewards catalogue, it actually only covers one card in HLB’s cards portfolio: the HLB Sutera Platinum. Other rewards cards by HLB earn specific rewards: the HLB Emirates cards earn Emirates Skywards miles; HLB Infinite, Infinite P, Infinite Doctor’s Edition all earn Enrich Points, and the HLB GSC cards earn GSC Points. This card, which earns up to 8x Rewards Points for every RM1 spent, is effectively nerfed come 1 July despite not having its benefits changed.
A quick glance at the new catalogue indicated that there will be an increase in points required for all redemptions, with air miles redemption having the highest increase. Enrich Points, for instance, will see a substantial 100% hike from its existing rate, while the amount required for e-vouchers is set to go up by 15.9%. Similarly, points redemption for annual fees of credit cards will go up by approximately 15%.
Here’s a look at how the air miles redemption rate, specifically, will be affected by this latest revision by HLB:
Air miles type | Existing redemption rate | New redemption rate (from 1 July 2023) |
1,000 Enrich Points | – Online: 12,000 – Call centre: 12,360 | – Online: 24,000 – Call centre: 28,800 |
1,000 airasia Points | – Online: 6,500 – Call centre: 6,800 | – Online: 9,000 – Call centre: 10,800 |
However, there’s still some time for HLB Sutera cardholders to quickly browse through the current catalogue and make any redemptions at the existing rate. It’s fairly easy to do so via HLB Connect – simply log in to your account and click on “Other Services”, followed by “Inquire/Redeem Rewards Points”. You will then be guided through, until you complete the redemption process.
