TNG Digital Sdn Bhd said that it has tapped into its collaboration with Chinese digital payment solutions provider, Alipay+ to enable Touch ‘n Go (TNG) eWallet’s cross-border payments capabilities in mainland China. With this, it will be the first Malaysian e-wallet that can be utilised for payments in the republic country.
“This augurs well for all our users travelling there as they will enjoy the ease of making cashless payments, and in ringgit as well. We expect our users to experience the same seamless convenience of using TNG eWallet in mainland China as how they would in Malaysia, and with the assurance that their transactions are safe and secure,” said the chief executive officer of TNG Digital, Alan Ni in a statement.
Angel Zhao – who is the president of Ant Group, the parent company of Alipay+ – also remarked that this collaboration is a milestone for Alipay+. “Through simple adaptation, more than 2.5 million merchants around the world are able to access and better serve the growing user population of various leading digital payments providers, as digital transformation takes hold around the world,” she added.
TNG Digital further noted that with this latest collaboration, TNG eWallet users can conduct cross-border payments not only in China, but also various other locations that support the QR code generated by Alipay+. The growing list of countries includes Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Britain, Italy, France, and Germany.
To use TNG eWallet’s cross-border payment service, simply tap on the Pay tile, and swipe upwards on the page as prompted (“Swipe up to pay abroad via Alipay+”). You can then go ahead and select the currency that you’d like to pay in via a dropdown list on the top right corner, then proceed to make your payments using the QR code displayed. The foreign exchange rate that applies to your payments will also be stated on the page for your reference.
