Grab has revealed that its everyday goods delivery service GrabMart will now be expanded to include a new feature called Instant Retail. The addition aims to connect retail small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and chains with their customers, offering safer and faster deliveries.

According to Grab, GrabMart’s Instant Retail will tap into its network of more than 120,000 delivery partners nationwide to provide deliveries within 30 minutes for purchases as low as RM5. At present, GrabMart deliveries are typically made in under one hour.

Aside from that, Instant Retail will also allow retailers access to Grab’s database of users, enabling these retailers to serve a large community of tech-savvy customers and increasing their sales per store. Moreover, they can tap into benefits, such as getting in-depth insights on customers’ brand engagement and product preferences.

In a statement, Grab said that this feature was introduced as the company observed a triple increase in sales for convenience and grocery business via GrabMart during the movement control order (MCO). Even as more businesses reopen now, consumers are looking for safer and more convenient ways to shop for their daily needs.

“While we saw a clear uplift to safe, instant deliveries for food, drinks, snacks, and other essential goods via GrabFood, GrabMart and ‘Pasar’ on GrabMart, we see a new challenge for retailers,” said the managing director of Grab Malaysia, Sean Goh. He added that this is especially true for businesses that traditionally rely on walk-in customers, including health and beauty retailers, toys, gifts and stationary shops, and florists.

“This is a gap where we believe GrabMart is able to step in and address, while helping to make the government’s upcoming Shop Malaysia Online initiative a success,” said Goh. He was referring to one of the initiatives announced through the PENJANA economic recovery plan, which seeks to spur the country’s digital economy.

To kickstart GrabMart’s new Instant Retail feature, Grab is offering an introductory promotion of 20% discount. It is also made in conjunction with the upcoming Shop Malaysia Online initiative.

Grab’s latest service that was launched, adding to a variety of other services that Grab is already offering. The delivery service was initially provided only in Klang Valley, but was subsequently expanded to other cities such as Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Ipoh, Melaka, and Penang.
