Malaysians are a bunch of folks who love to get around and see the world That's why we have so many travel credit cards available to us. Today, the RinggitPlus team will review one of those cards – the AirAsia-Citi Gold Visa Credit Card.
As you would have guessed from its name, this credit card was created for those who travel quite a bit over the low cost carrier AirAsia. In fact, it’s interesting to note that at this moment Citibank is the only local bank that the airline has partnered with on credit cards.
That being the case, you can rightly expect the card to have loads of AirAsia privileges. For starters, cardholders will earn AirAsia Points based on their total monthly spend. Every Ringgit that you charge to your AirAsia-Citi Gold Visa will help you earn 1 AirAsia point. But if you carry forward a total balance of between RM501 and RM2499, you can earn 1.5 AirAsia Points. If you spend more than that, you'll earn 2 AirAsia Points for every RM 1 that you spend.
These AirAsia Points may then be used to redeem BIG Points at a ratio of 2000:500, which you can used to travel to any AirAsia destination around the world. These rewards points are also exchangeable for anything on the Citi Rewards catalogue.
AirAsia Points are earned on all purchases local and abroad, except for petrol spend. They do not expire, unlike other types of reward points.
Furthermore, cardholders will also enjoy priority booking, early promotion notifications as well as special fares and holiday packages not available anywhere else. Those who spend in excess of RM20,000 per year will get three inflight meal vouchers and one Pick-a-Seat voucher.
In our opinion, this AirAsia-Citi card will come in quite handy for the budget airline’s frequent flyers. The more you spend on the card to travel, the more AirAsia Points you receive, and the more you’ll get to travel in turn. We think that the Gold Travel component of the Gold-On-Call Assistance suite is a nice bonus too, giving you that extra peace of mind when you’re overseas whether on business or holiday.
The AirAsia-Citi Gold Visa Credit Card has a minimum annual income requirement of RM24000 and an annual fee of RM190.80. You might also want to consider the AirAsia-Citi Platinum Visa Credit Card.
